WOMEX 2023 in A Coruña Wrap Up

Twenty companies were part of the Sounds from Spain delegation at the most relevant event for World Music, which in 2023 chose A Coruña as its venue.

WOMEX – Worldwide Music Expo – is the world’s most international and culturally diverse music gathering and the largest conference of the global music scene, with a trade show, talks, films and exhibition concerts.

 

More than 2,600 professionals (including 260 performers) gather each October from 90 countries, making WOMEX the premier networking platform for the global music industry. Its musical spectrum is unparalleled in the international showcase market, ranging from the most traditional to the new global local underground, encompassing folk, roots music, jazz, local cultures, as well as urban and electronic sounds from around the globe.

 

7 stages, around 700 exhibiting companies, more than 100 speakers, films, an opening concert and an awards ceremony over five days of networking and short nights.

 

The event remains dedicated to facilitating and promoting the global music industry and providing a platform to connect, inspire and share experiences, enabling new partnerships in transcontinental markets and open international economic and cultural dialogue.

 

As every year, Sounds from Spain has a privileged space at the fair. In this edition, grouping 20 companies, the Sounds from Spain exhibition space had a considerable space as shown in the images below. Each company participating in Sounds from Spain was guaranteed a workspace for meetings, as well as promotional information available to all delegates. The Spanish companies that were part of the Spanish delegation were: Altafonte – Amy Producciones – Aguaespejo – Blanco y Negro Music – El Tragaluz – Escenamusic – Espacio C – Flamenco Agency – Grupo Ace Music 21 – Thioune Brothers – José Alejandro Galán Vila – Kamala Producciones – Madame Vodevil – Mapamundi Música – Arpa Flamenca – Pelayo Producciones – PlayplanCultural – Producciones Submarinas – Sierra Contratación Artística and The One Step Beyond. Sounds from Spain supported the concerts of Karmento, Niño Josele and Valeria Castro, part of the WOMEX showcase program.

 

 

ICEX was one of the institutions that participated in the inauguration ceremony with the support of two artists whose companies were part of the Spain Pavilion: Karmento, represented by the company El Tragaluz, and Niño Josele, represented by Kamala Producciones . At the ceremony, held at the Palacio de la Ópera in A Coruña, ICEX and Sounds from Spain had a prominent place both in the program and in other communication media.

 

In addition to the two opening showcases, ICEX- Sounds from Spain supported the showcase of Valeria Castro, represented by the company Madame Vodevil on the Atlantic Connections – Teatro Rosalía de Castro stage.

 

Additional activities included a meeting with Canadian companies, a session with the Creative Europe Offices of Spain and Portugal, and a reception at the stand.
