ICEX and INAEM, under the Sounds from Spain umbrella, support concerts by three Spanish bands: Compota de Mañana, José de los Camarones, and Pipo Romero.
From October 22 to 26, the Finnish city of Tampere hosts the itinerant WOMEX fair, the most important international professional meeting dedicated to world music, where the most influential opinion makers in the industry from all over the world gather. The annual 5-day event includes a conference program, a market, and a concert festival featuring more than 300 artists from approximately 50 countries.
In the 2025 edition, a total of 8 Spanish companies participate in the Sounds from Spain booth, a sectorial brand for promoting the Spanish music industry abroad. The 8 participating companies, mainly dedicated to live music, attend the market with their best proposals in the world music segment, covering genres as diverse as folk, jazz, flamenco, indie, and electronic music. The eight participating companies are: ACTURA ART GLOBAL, ESCENAMUSIC, FESTIVAL ETNOSUR, GUSPIRA MANAGEMENT, MAPAMUNDI MÚSICA, MUNSTER RECORDS, PELAYO PRODUCCIONES, and PRODUCCIONES SUBMARINAS.
In collaboration with INAEM, ICEX organizes the Spanish presence at the fair and supports the concerts of three Spanish bands in this edition’s concert program. This is the case of Compota de Manana, an artist presented by the company Guspira Management. Compota de Mañana is one of the most avant-garde bands in the European Latin scene. Born in Barcelona in 2018, they have developed the concept of Alternatimba, a fresh and original fusion that combines Afro-Cuban music with rap, funk, and jazz. Their proposal, marked by creativity, aesthetics, and audiovisual elements, goes far beyond the band format and has become an artistic movement with its own personality. Compota de Mañana will present their showcase within the official WOMEX 25 concert program at the Torni Stage on Thursday, October 23 at 12:30 AM (the night from Thursday to Friday).
The second artistic proposal attending WOMEX with Sounds from Spain is José de los Camarones. José de los Camarones offers a flamenco that expands, ignites, and elevates. His proposal crosses flamenco folk, psychedelia, and Andalusian rock, with a contemporary approach and an unusual poetic and sonic depth. The mysticism becomes rhythm, and the “duende” becomes a journey. From selling seafood in Jerez to modeling for Gucci, José de los Camarones has become a unique figure in contemporary flamenco. José de los Camarones will perform at the OffWomex Stage, Olympia, on Thursday, October 23 at 9:45 PM.
The third Spanish proposal presented at WOMEX with the support of Sounds from Spain is Pipo Romero. The virtuoso Spanish guitarist Pipo Romero fuses flamenco, Atlantic folk, and contemporary acoustic music, creating a distinctive instrumental voice through his own style: Spanish Acoustic Fingerstyle. His innovative approach to steel-string acoustic guitar combines techniques from flamenco, banjo, and classical music, resulting in a rich and dynamic sound that bridges tradition and modernity. By pushing instrumental music beyond its limits, Pipo Romero has carved out his own space in the contemporary scene, establishing himself as one of Spain’s most innovative and exciting guitarists. Pipo Romero will perform at the OffWomex Stage, Olympia, on Thursday, October 23 at 11:15 PM.
