The Latin Alternative Music Conference is the most important Spanish-language alternative music event in the U.S. and has positioned itself as the showcase for new trends in the Latin alternative genre.
LAMC – Latin Alternative Music Conference – is the world’s leading independent Latin music festival held in New York City every July. 4 days of celebration, 11 conferences, 4 nights of showcases with 26 artists in total and offsite activities. In the 2023 edition there were more than 1,200 attendees, mainly artists, labels, journalists, executives from large and small companies and music entrepreneurs from the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Spain and other countries in the region.
LAMC is the showcase for new trends in the Latin alternative genre, which incorporates a variety of musical influences ranging from rock and pop to rap, electronic music and the traditional sounds of Latin America.
LAMC is organized by Industria Works, a very prestigious and relevant organization for the Spanish music industry, not only for organizing LAMC, but also for its activity as a booking – management agency and record label. Among the artists they have collaborated with are Love of Lesbian, Tom Tom Club, Paula Cendejas, Nicola Cruz and Cande y Paulo, Trueno, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, El mató a un policía motorizado, Natos y Waor, Maikel de la Calle, Pahua or El Guincho.
It is an ideal activity for those companies and bands that already have experience in internationalization, especially because to get the most out of the activity it is essential to interact with other delegates, something that favors the atmosphere and spirit of the fair. Its small size gives LAMC an exclusive character, but in the absence of a platform that connects attendees, it is ideal to have experience in this type of event and, above all, to do previous work.
It is an activity that is naturally segmented, because it concentrates in the same space the agents of the industry that are of interest to Spanish bands and companies. Likewise, if a band is selected to participate in the Sounds from Spain showcase, the opportunities multiply. Not only because he gets to perform in front of key executives of the Spanish-language music industry in the U.S., but also because he gets to participate in the festival’s press room where artists participating with Sounds from Spain are guaranteed space.
It is advisable to plan ahead and set specific objectives to avoid frustration. When interacting with other delegates, it is essential to know the dynamics and spaces for networking.
At this fair, the conferences concentrate most of the delegates and it is common to make contact with them. Other spaces conducive to networking are the showcases, the stand area -where Sounds from Spain has a privileged place-, and the offsite sessions. It is a relaxed atmosphere that favors the rapprochement between attendees.
